IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building Administrator
FTE: 0.375 (3 hrs/day) 10:30 am–1:30 pm

GENERAL DUTIES
SUMMARY:
Assists or lends support to licensed teachers, or under the direction of other staff in a supervisory role. Performs student supervision tasks of limited variety and moderate complexity. These tasks can be readily learned on the job. Positions in this classification may be part-time depending on district need.
Responsibilities- Make some independent judgments within prescribed policies and procedures
- Employ good judgment in a variety of situations, including emergencies
- Work with a variety of students and demonstrate a willingness to gain the information and training necessary to work effectively
- Possess the characteristics and understanding to be an effective member of an educational support team
- Comprehend and follow oral and written instructions and complete work within established time lines
- Communicate with appropriate student age group requiring the exercise of both empathetic and disciplinarian approaches
- Maintain a confidential, non-preferential, non-judgmental attitude towards the students, staff, and program
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, staff, and general public; learn and implement policies for students of the program the employee is responsible for
- Keep current on changes in requirements of the job by attending training, classes or workshops
- Assist licensed teacher with routine classroom activities
- Assist licensed teacher in preparing for assignments including correction of papers, copying, decorating classroom, preparation of supplies
- Assist in a variety of building tasks including selling lunch tickets, counting lunch fund receipts, recording and balancing lunch count data
- Supervise students in classrooms, lunchrooms, media centers, playground, bus pickup/drop off
- Supervise and resolve routine behavior problems within prescribed guidelines of school policy; refer repetitive or severe problems to teacher or administrator
- Administers first aid
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- One year minimum child-care experience preferred
- Oregon Driver's License, or ability to get to and from work in a timely manner
- Medic First Aid Card (must be certified within the first 60 days of employment)
- Other certifications/trainings as required to execute the Essential Functions and Duties and Responsibilities
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
- All employees must be able to communicate effectively;
English as a second language employees should be willing to attend English class as requested by supervisor
- See near and far; constant observation of students
- Discriminate colors
- Hear sufficiently to perform duties
- Medium lifting occasionally (20–50 lbs)
- Light lifting frequently (0–20 lbs)
- Occasional light to medium carrying of supplies and equipment
- Pulling/pushing occasionally (e.g., wheel chair, doors, equipment)
- Occasional implementation of individual student restraint protocols
- Crawling, kneeling, climbing, cramped spaces and repeated bending occasionally to frequently
- Balance and hand/wrist movement often to frequent
- Occasional use of household cleaning chemicals and glues
- Exposure to blood and body fluids on occasion or more frequently
- Exposure to bees, pollens, head lice may occur
- Work inside and outside with possible inclement weather; noise level generally moderate to high
This is a 9 month assignment on the E range of the Classified Job Schedule. Actual days may vary dependent on the number of days students are in school or the size and needs of the classroom population.
