Senior Substation Protection Engineer

Electrical Consultants, Inc. (ECI) is a leading power engineering consulting firm that serves electric utilities, energy developers, and industrial customers throughout the United States. We have an immediate opening for an experienced Substation Protection Engineer in our Portland, OR office (physically located in Tigard, OR).

This position will be responsible for configuring and producing engineering drawings for installation and commissioning of electro‑mechanical and microprocessor‑type protection relay systems in high‑voltage substations. Key tasks include:

• Generating one‑line, three‑line, schematic, and wiring diagrams for substation projects ranging from 4.16 kV to 500 kV.
• Collaborating with design teams on conceptual, preliminary, and final design of station projects.
• Providing mentorship and training to less experienced staff.
• Occasional travel as required.

• BSEE or MSEE required.
• 5+ years of experience specifying, configuring, and producing engineering drawings for electro‑mechanical and microprocessor protection relay systems in high‑voltage substations.
• Extensive background in power system protection and control.
• Proven experience managing a team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
• Required to pass client‑mandated drug and background checks and meet ECI’s auto insurance carrier requirements.
• No sponsorship for employment visa status required.
