Geological Technician
Since 2009, Gowest has expanded its land holdings in the North Timmins Gold Project (“NTGP”) area to cover a total of109 squarekm in the Timmins gold camp, with much of the additional lands being located along the same geological structures – along the largely undeveloped Pipestone Fault, believed to be a splay off the prolific Porcupine-Destor Fault, which has produced the majority of the 145 million ounces of gold produced historically along the Abitibi-Greenstone belt – that host Gowest’s Bradshaw Gold Deposit (formerly Frankfield East) as well as a number of other gold showings.
POSITION SUMMARY:Reporting to the Chief Geologist (or their delegate), the Geological Technician will be responsible for Geotechnical work to support the exploration and production geology teams at Gowest Gold.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:- Tech and orient core.
- Sample core to required specifications and as directed. A strong attention to detail, paying strict attention to dispatch and sample tag allocation is required.
- Seal sample bags for security.
- Avoid contamination through proper maintenance and housekeeping.
- Organize and lift core boxes.
- Clean up facility and core racks.
- Field work sampling, as required.
- Assist Geologists, when requested.
- Work in a healthy work environment with full support, cooperation and commitment to satisfy our operation’s goal of being accident-free, with safety leadership targeting Triple Zero.
- Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
- Adhere to all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Secondary School Graduation Diploma
- Good working and safety records are required
- Experience in Exploration/Mining experience in narrow vein gold.
- Knowledge of narrow vein gold systems in Archean terranes.
- Knowledge with Geotic Log Leapfrog Map Info, Autocad, or Deswick would be an asset.
- Exposure to drilling, core logging, and underground settings.
- Basic First Aid would be an asset.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite is an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, listening and time management skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must possess a valid Class G Ontario Driver's License.
- Must be willing to relocate to Timmins.
- The role is located at the Frankfield Property, which is in the southwest part of Tully Township, approximately 32 km north-northeast of the City of Timmins, Ontario
- The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 4 days on and 3 days off (10-hour days). Although you will be assigned a work schedule, this is not a guaranteed schedule of hours, and your work hours may vary with the needs of the company.
