Globe 24-7 is partnering with a mining client in Ontario, Canada to hire an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer
Position Overview
Reporting to the Geotechnical Superintendent, this role is responsible for implementing and managing the site ground control program while providing leadership and oversight to ground control engineers and technicians to support safe and effective operations.
The Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform quality assurance and quality control activities related to shotcrete application, ground support installation, grouting, support audits, and paste fill placement.
- Conduct and document inspections of underground development and stoping areas.
- Complete rock mass characterization and classification to inform design and ground support decisions.
- Process and analyze seismic data to support risk assessment and operational planning.
- Utilize geotechnical modelling software to interpret conditions and support engineering analysis.
- Carry out drillhole logging and structural mapping in surface, underground, and shaft environments.
- Evaluate stability of underground openings, pillars, and stopes, providing recommendations as required.
- Support rehabilitation planning following blast, equipment, or seismic-related damage.
- Contribute to stoping sequence planning and re-entry assessments following seismic activity.
- Perform kinematic and geotechnical analyses to guide safe excavation practices.
- Install and analyze geotechnical monitoring instrumentation, including lidar, pressure cells, piezometers, and seismic sensors.
- Identify potential ground hazards prior to mining and recommend appropriate support measures.
- Review engineering designs to ensure geotechnical considerations are addressed.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical, Geological, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Masters degree in geotechnical engineering is considered an asset.
- Professional engineering registration, or eligibility for registration, with a Professional Engineering of Ontario.
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
- Minimum five years of underground mining experience focused on ground control.
- Working knowledge of microseismic monitoring systems.
- Experience with Deswik, Vulcan, or other mine planning software is an asset.
- Supervisory underground certification or equivalent training is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and analytical abilities.
- Effective organizational and time management skills.
