About the Opportunity
We are looking to hire a Lead Engineer, Capital Projects to join our Timmins Operations team in Timmins, ON to play a key role in the Bell Creek Shaft expansion project on a full‑time basis. The schedule for this position is Monday‑Friday, 8 hrs/day or 4 on, 3 off, 10hrs/day.
This position offers a base salary range of $140,000‑$180,000 annually, based on qualifications and experience. This is an existing vacancy. The successful candidate may begin as soon as possible.
This role requires relocation to the Timmins area and is not a camp‑based position.
The Lead Engineer, Capital Projects will support the implementation of capital projects during design, build, close‑out, and operational readiness phases. They will produce accurate, timely reporting on project phases, milestones, and present updates. They will ensure work standards and requirements are met or exceeded while complying with all applicable laws, rules, policies, and regulations. Regular update presentations to senior management and corporate personnel are required, thus excellent communication skills are essential.
Responsibilities- Act as the liaison between the Mechanical/Structural/Electrical Engineering consultants and the execution team.
- Help execute the operational plan for completing the project.
- Ensure QA/QC is performed on all new installations.
- Produce project schedule and updates using project planning software.
- Assist with the development, optimisation and implementation of project plans to ensure budget, schedule and overall objectives are achieved safely and economically.
- Supervise other engineering staff.
- Ensure layouts, prints and drawings are produced accurately and delivered on time.
- Monitor progress and report performance against the project plan.
- Measure earned value of the project.
- Facilitate daily and weekly planning meetings with key personnel including contractors to review performance and coordinate activities.
- Monitor compliance and ensure adherence to applicable engineering codes, regulations, safety and environmental practices, performance standards and specifications.
- Troubleshoot problems, analyse and recommend solutions to keep work on plan.
- In consultation with the project team, evaluate alternative optimised methods for execution, detailing costs, benefits and issues, and make recommendations.
- Assist and coordinate special projects arising within the planning and projects teams.
- Lead and coordinate project work with Mine Operations and contractors, managing planning, scheduling and budgeting for each project.
- Licensed professional engineer (or equivalent technical equivalency).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in underground mining.
- Over 10 years’ experience in engineering and/or projects.
- Experience with mining projects.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset.
- Knowledge of tendering/procurement practices.
- Strong leadership skills and experience leading an engineering team.
- Demonstrated ability to drive projects forward.
- Proven ability to understand critical timelines.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong skills using project planning software such as MS Project, Primavera, Excel, Deswik.
