Job Overview

The Nurse Practitioner is a full‑time unionized position at the Golden Manor in Timmins, Ontario. Reporting to the Director of Care, the NP works in collaboration and consultation with the Medical Director, Administration, other physicians, nursing and members of the inter‑professional health care team to respond to and manage the needs of residents within the Home. The NP will also have an active role in the leadership of Pain Management and End of Life Care.

Duties
  • Provide primary care in accordance with established policies, the resident plan of care and within scope of practice
  • Conduct comprehensive geriatric assessments; consult, communicate, and collaborate with physicians on treatment plans (including diagnostic, pharmacological and non‑pharmacological therapies and counseling) and initiate treatment plans as necessary
  • Complete medication reviews for residents
  • Provide nursing consultation to residents and their families, health professionals, administration, groups or organizations
  • Participate in the identification, analysis and interpretation of trends in resident care outcomes and professional nursing practice issues in order to determine priorities for educational programming
  • Be involved in clinical, educational, leadership activities (i.e. development of policy, procedures, standards of care, order sets, guidelines, bedside coaching) as required
  • Ensure College of Nurses Standards of Practice and relevant legislation requirements (i.e. Long‑Term Care Homes Act and Regulations) are met
  • Support the care team in providing safe resident centered care within the scope of practice
  • Leads and supports resident safety initiatives, identifying and addressing clinical risks to ensure high‑quality, safe, and person‑centered care.
  • Provide RN coverage as per Long‑Term Care Homes Act safe staffing requirements
  • Contribute to a home environment for residents that ensures alignment with the values of the Golden Manor
Qualifications
  • Current registration, in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario as Registered Nurse in the Extended Class or RN (EC)
  • Proof of Professional Liability Protection required
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience in the care of geriatric clients and adult chronic disease management
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy an asset or willing to complete upon hire
  • Advanced knowledge and decision‑making skills in assessment, diagnosis and health care management
  • Ability to lead committees and develop and implement quality improvement plans
  • Knowledgeable about primary health care issues in Long Term Care
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal competencies
  • Familiar with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Power point)
  • Knowledge of Point Click Care and interRAI
  • All applicants must successfully pass the Vulnerable Sector Check screening check
  • Bilingualism in French and English is an asset
