About Us: United Teletech Financial is a not-for-profit financial cooperative serving our members and their families since 1967. Originally chartered to serve the needs of Bell Labs employees, membership to United Teletech Financial is now open to any person who lives, works, worships, attends school or volunteers in Monmouth and Ocean counties and portions of central Middlesex County. As a consumer, one may be eligible to join through the NJ Consumer Council, a non-profit consumer education organization with over 16,000 members.
Core Focus: The Accountant, reporting to the Accounting Manager, is responsible for applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports, and ensure appropriate accounting controls. This role supports the credit union in maintaining financial integrity, compliance, and operational efficiency.
General Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required;
- Credit Union or Financial Institution work experience preferred
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within the department
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implement solutions
- Knowledge of GAAP, auditing practices, economic principles, and regulatory requirements
- Ability to interface with investment partners, vendors, and other external entities
- Proficiency in MS Office, accounting systems, and financial reporting tools (experience with multi-dimensional loan analytical tool preferred)
- Ability to work flexible hours based on business needs

General Duties and Responsibilities
1. General Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare, review, and reconcile general ledger accounts
- Ensure proper recording of all transactions according to GAAP and internal policies
- Maintain integrity of financial statements, including balance sheet, profit & loss, and other reports
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes
- Prepare and reconcile subsidiary schedules (e.g., fixed assets, prepaids, work in process, allowance calculations)
- Reconcile and monitor key balance sheet accounts
2. Investment Accounting
- Book investment payments and track investment files
- Book purchases and sales of investments
- Prepare monthly investment files
- Monitor and reconcile daily bank accounts and other investment-related transactions
3. Loan Participation & Lending Support
- Post loan participation payments/remittances and manage loan participation files
- Reconcile loan balances and related accounts
- Prepare monthly loan participation reports for delinquency packages
- Calculate ALLL (Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses)
- Track collateralized loans weekly
- Monitor medallion allowance / complete medallion valuation used for allowance analysis
- Prepare and maintain accounting and reporting on 1st Mortgage and Commercial lending business segment.
4. Accruals, Prepaids, and Fixed Assets
- Book monthly accruals based on budget
- Maintain prepaid tracking and amortization schedules
- Record and reconcile fixed assets and rental adjustments
5. Daily Operations & Cash Management
- Daily ACH, Debit Card, Credit Card, Zelle, Kiosk, Share Draft, Branch Capture and other reconciliations
- Prepare Bank Reconciliations
- End-of-day cash management analysis and recommendations
- Monitor CDs with past maturities
- Manage Non-member CDs
6. Reporting & Regulatory Compliance
- Prepare quarterly shock analysis, cash flow reports, product profitability
- Prepare and upload CECL reports into multi-dimensional loan analytical tool
- Support financial audits and regulatory exams with requested documentation
- Ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory policies
- Provide data for financial audit and NCUA exam
- Accounts payable management, including investigating unusual or duplicate charges
- Vendor follow-up and management
- Accounts payable system management, including vendor system access and permissions
- Backup AP responsibilities when needed
- Review corporate card and expense vouchers once journalized
- Create, review and revise accounting procedures
- Backup accounting responsibilities for colleagues when out of office
- Record monthly GAAP rental adjustments
- CECL Off-balance sheet credit exposure tracking and entries
- Loan participation month-end remittances and trial balance processing
- ACCOUNTING SQL reports validation and storage
- Work on assigned Adhoc reports
