this is skilled work with the responsibility to supervise the work of multiple public works crew members; prioritize and assigns work as necessary to complete projects assigned by division head; and oversees all activities at the work site. Incumbent must have significant job knowledge of the varied activities and handles routine assignments with little direct supervision. Crew supervisors may be assigned to the following divisions: facilities maintenance;
solid waste; streets maintenance; stormwater management; water/sewer field operations.

supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, addresses employee concerns and problems; directs work, coaches, and manages and documents employee performance.
trains staff in departmental operations; demonstrates proper work methods and procedures; familiarizes them with work area, location of supplies, departmental policies, and equipment; and trains them in technical aspects of essential work functions.
collaborates with immediate supervisor to obtain instructions regarding work assignments; determines optimum methods of project completion; organizes, prioritizes and assigns work to crews according to available resources and time.
oversees all activity at the work site; ensures that projects proceed according to schedule, working to resolve delays and problems as needed; provides direction, guidance and technical assistance to division leader and crew members; and monitors status of work in progress.
observes and checks routes for proper completion; ensures all work conforms to standards for quality, cleanliness, safety and customer service; takes corrective measures as needed; evaluates completed work.
oversees operation of all equipment and tools by assigned staff; instructs and trains employees on the proper, efficient, and safe usage of equipment; checks assigned equipment regularly for operational safety; coordinates maintenance and repair of equipment as needed.
serves as departmental representative for all work falling within assigned area of responsibility; liaisons with personnel from other departments, agencies, or organizations for related matters; responds to inquiries and complaints from the public relating to services provided; monitors and coordinates the work of all contractors to ensure proper provision of services.
completes and maintains various records and reports including weekly or monthly progress reports, human resources related documentation, incident reports, property damage reports, and others as necessary.
ensures that all work is performed in compliance with safety policies and procedures, including occupational safety and health administration (osha) safety regulations; oversees set up of safe work zone and ensures safety of all persons on and around the work sites and on sanitation routes; supplies safety equipment and proper personal protection equipment (ppe); enforces all safety policies, taking corrective action as necessary;
sees that proper precautions are taken to avoid/minimize injury to employees or damage to property and equipment; and coordinates monthly safety meetings.
monitors and maintains supplies, materials, and equipment used to perform essential tasks; makes sure workers have sufficient materials to complete tasks; oversees use of equipment; requisitions new supplies and parts to replenish stock.
participates in other departmental projects and activities as directed; performs basic and semi-skilled labor as appropriate to assist in completion of maintenance, uses hand tools and operates motorized tools as necessary to complete assigned task; and manually loads, moves, and arranges materials.
informs manager and division head of all work performed and progress of tasks; reports all problems and concerns regarding daily assignments, equipment, facilities/property, or other items relating to work performed; completes all appropriate paperwork; complies with policies and procedures relating to operations and staffing issues.
assists assigned crews with work as necessary.
