The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

The Ground Systems Support (GSS) organization is looking for Pneumatics Technician for the Launch Equipment Shop (LES) who supports multiple programs for National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA). The candidate will provide tubing fabrication support for new and modification fabrications using various materials and sizes.

THIS IS A COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT REPRESENTED POSITION

Responsibilities

Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform quality work in the operation, maintenance and repair of pneumatic equipment, assemblies, and systems.
  • Fabricate new pneumatic systems and equipment from engineering drawings to include but not be limited to ball valves, check valves, pressure regulators, pressure gauges, and various types and sizes of tubing.
  • Fabricate tubing using 37° flare and medium pressure (cone and tap) fittings.
  • Perform hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing.
  • Work with high pressure (up to 10,000psi) systems.
  • Work with commodities such as GN2, GO2, GH2, GHe and Hypergolics.
  • Use precision calibrated tools: torque wrenches, micrometers, and calipers, etc.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and work instructions to carry out written work assignments with minimal oversight.
  • Independently perform as a certified technician to rework, repair, or modify existing fabrications for fit and dimensional accuracy.
  • Perform effectively in a fast-paced job/shop environment where fabrications are unique and time sensitive.
  • Independently perform as a certified technician to set up, adjust and operate all shop floor machines such as grinders, shapers, presses, standard hand tools, etc.
  • Work directly with engineering personnel and technicians on the installation, and operation of components, special systems, and equipment.
  • Buildup of manufactured parts into final assemblies per print and work instructions.
  • Operate forklift and man-lift equipment in the performance of work assignments as required.
  • Work at elevated locations using systems/equipment such as ladders, man-lifts, scaffolding and other work platforms.
  • Operate appropriate shop mechanical equipment, systems, and tools in the performance of work duties.
  • Clean hardware and components prior to, during, and after assembly using established procedures and specifications.
  • Maintain equipment as required to include preventive maintenance, repairs, or replacement of parts.
  • Execute all work duties in a skilled, safe, and technically acceptable manner.
  • Wear and utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and clothing during performance of work duties, to include safety glasses/goggles, hard hats, gloves, safety boots/shoes, masks, respirators, coveralls, harnesses, etc.
  • Identify and correct potential hazards and/or unsafe acts/conditions in the shop and at the work site.
  • Notify Supervision of any hazards in the workplace and advise on potential corrective actions.
  • Maintain work area in a neat, clean, orderly, and safe condition.
  • Perform work in other classifications when incidental, but necessary to accomplish work assignment.
  • Provide day to day technical support for operations and maintenance issues.
  • Interface with customers and communicate status and/or completion of tasks per schedule.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience and HS diploma
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment
  • Knowledge of pneumatic pressure, temperature, and flow measurement devices.
