Ward Sister/Charge Nurse

The overall job purpose of the Sister/Charge Nurse is to provide clinical and managerial leadership to the nursing and multi-professional team. This includes acting as a clinical leader and an expert practitioner liaising, guiding and advising the multidisciplinary team and external agencies in the provision of optimum patient care.
Responsibilities include:
- Regularly reviewing the clinical records of patients under responsibility and evaluating the effectiveness of the standard of care planning and delivery.
- Using the results to work with the team to improve patient outcomes and to provide feedback on good and poor practice, ensuring effective role modelling and mentorship.
- Actively playing a role in quality and service improvement and working closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager and multi-disciplinary team to audit clinical standards of care within the clinical area.
- Ensuring a high standard of clinical care and a good working environment for all patients.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Band 6 Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to join the inpatient team at Tiverton Community Hospital. The ward is a 32-bedded rehabilitation unit supporting patients who require focused, goal-oriented rehabilitation that cannot be delivered safely in their home environment. Our aim is to promote independence, restore functional ability, and prepare patients for a safe and timely discharge.
As a clinical team leader, you will play a pivotal role within a dynamic multidisciplinary team, maintaining high professional, clinical, and safety standards, ensuring that patient care is delivered with compassion, competence, and consistency. You will provide visible leadership, direction, and supervision to nursing and support staff, enabling them to deliver high-quality, individualised care tailored to each patient’s needs and the wider ward environment.
Working Pattern: 34.5 hours per week, rostered shifts 7 days a week /24 hour a day
