X-Ray

Technician:
Monday - Friday with after hours required as needed. PRN Position also available

The Non-Registered Radiology Staff Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic radiology procedures under the supervision of a Registered Radiology Technologist on patients.

Education:

Enrolled in or graduated from a formal Radiologic Technology program in good standing with the ARRT.

Licensure / Certification:

ARRT Registry Eligible/ Registered with ARRT(American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)

Provides care for patients of the following age groups:

Infants (Newborn to One Year) Adolescent (Ten to 18 Years)

Toddlers (Two to Four Years) Adult (19 to 69 Years)

Child (Five to Nine Years) Geriatric (70 and Above)

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Checks two patient identifiers for proper identification prior to exam.
  • Explains procedure demonstrating interpersonal skills in order to interact with patients who may be under physical and/or mental stress.
  • Transfers and properly positions patients for exams in order to obtain desired radiographic results according to the physician’s specifications.
  • Provides immobilization and protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Reviews patient records for accuracy and compliance with treatment plan; obtains appropriate consents.
  • Selects appropriate technical factors for exam being performed.
  • Selects exams correctly and consistently; notes diagnosis on exams when completed.
  • Takes appropriate measures to decrease likelihood of retakes; documents cause for needed retakes.
  • Monitors patients throughout procedure and takes proper measures to ensure safety.
  • Verifies images to PACS and Rads for Radiologist dictation upon completion of exam.
  • Utilizes mobile x-ray equipment as necessary.
  • Alerts appropriate personnel when equipment maintenance is needed.
  • Prepares room according to type of procedure being performed.
  • Obtains needed contrast from Omnicell.
  • Holds and positions patient as directed by physician.
  • Exposes proper radiographs according to protocol of procedure.
  • Advises patient of measures to take in order to prevent any possible side-effects (i.e. nausea, constipation, etc.)
  • Prioritizes scheduling of patients according to medical condition.
  • Determines type of transportation based on patient status.
  • Notifies appropriate individual when supplies are needed to avoid shortages.
  • Understands, supports and applies departmental/hospital policies, procedures and standards at all times.
  • Promotes quality of care and cost effectiveness within the department through appropriate utilization of equipment, supplies and labor.
  • Alerts supervisor/manager to quality improvement opportunities for both patient care and staff performance.
  • Ability to utilize Power Share for comparison of studies to other facilities.

  • Provides protective environment; does not leave unattended.
  • Recognizes and reports signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect.
  • Assess mobility and cooperation for optimal positioning during exam.
  • Involves patients in the administration of care and to provide protective environment.
