We are seeking a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist passionate about Neurorehabilitation () for a 12‑month fixed term contract or secondment. Applicants with relevant clinical experience seeking a more senior role may also be considered. The post holder will gain excellent clinical expertise and leadership skills across the neuro rehab pathway, working with specialist teams and supporting patients accessing Level 1 units in Salford and Level 2 unit in Rochdale (Floyd Unit).
Site base will depend on skills and experience.
Applicants must have established skills in management of dysphagia, acquired communication disorders, and experience of working with patients with tracheostomy. Complex neuro presentations include patients on the ‘Prolonged Disorder of Consciousness’ (PDOC) spectrum and ‘Cognitive Communication Disorder’ (CCD).
We are a dynamic and friendly MDT, part of a larger Neuro‑Rehab SLT service, pursuing innovation and supporting CPD and research opportunities. Previous pilots include Phagenyx, Music therapy, collaboration with Ace Centre, and the ongoing Facial Rehab Pathway Project with the Greater Manchester Neurorehabilitation and Integrated Stroke Delivery Network (GMNISDN).
Main Duties- Join the Neurorehabilitation service on a fixed‑term/secondment basis and support the limited Band 7 rotation covering Level 1 units at Salford (C2 and L1) and Level 2 unit in Rochdale.
- Provide highly specialist evidence‑based input to the provision and development of Speech and Language Therapy in .
- Lead and coordinate management of complex communication disorders (tracheostomy, PDOC, locked‑in syndrome, CCD).
- Lead and coordinate management of complex dysphagia (including tracheostomy).
- Optional: join the Salford VFS and FEES rota and support the mobile FEES service for INRU within MCCN.
- Support senior management with service development projects for Neurorehabilitation and Greater Manchester transformation projects.
- Network with other Neurorehabilitation services across the Greater Manchester Network.

Key responsibilities include
- Deliver specialist Speech and Language Therapy to patients with complex swallowing and communication disorders.
- Assess and manage dysphagia and communication difficulties in neuro‑rehabilitation settings.
- Lead multidisciplinary team input, including rotation across sites within MCCN.
- Support clinical governance, quality improvement, and CPD activities.
- HCPC Registration (mandatory)
- RCSLT membership (desirable)
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
- Completion of post‑basic dysphagia training
- Completion of RCSLT tracheostomy competencies
- Member of Neurological / Rehabilitation CEN
- MSc or advanced qualification relevant to communication and/or swallowing disorders or commitment to pursue this level
- Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses
- Training in SLT student clinical supervision
- Completion of video fluoroscopy competencies
- Completion of FEES competencies
- Competencies in PDOC assessment
- Basic counseling skills
