About Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center

Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center provides intensive residential treatment services within a secure setting for youth ages 7-17, including specialized programs for more serious challenges.

Position Overview

The Registered Nurse will plan, direct, implement, and evaluate all aspects of nursing care on assigned units for residents ages 5-18. Responsibilities include maintaining patient safety and adhering to Nursing Standards, Facility Policies, and the Nurse Practice Act.

Essential Functions
  • Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients throughout the healthcare continuum.
  • Facilitate the patient and family's right to receive safe, quality, and cost‑effective care, while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Educate patients, families, and staff, using appropriate resources to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Apply the nursing process as a problem‑solving model, demonstrating mastery of clinical skills related to mental and physical health needs.
  • Demonstrate leadership and collaboration, participating as an effective member of the care team and leading unit staff by example.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with an RN, AD, or diploma in Nursing.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or holding a multi‑state license.
  • At least one year of nursing supervisory experience, two preferred; experience with children and adolescents in a psychiatric setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of risk factors for violence, ability to assess suicidal/homicidal ideation, and decision‑making for violent potential.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to rotate shifts and programs as needed, and maintain confidentiality of resident information.
