Visitor Services Counsellor

Promote the Tofino destination by providing exceptional and personalized service that encourages exploration and discovery and converts inquiries into bookings of activities, attractions, and services. This creates higher visitor satisfaction, increased spending, return visits and destination advocacy.

Hours:

30-37.5 hours per week (4-5 x 7.5 hour days). Must be available on weekends.

August-September 2026

• Coordinates visitor engagement by welcoming all guests to the Visitor Centre and mobile activations, determining their needs, and delivering complete, accurate information.
• Conducts intercept surveys by approaching visitors at designated locations to gather Economic Impact data.
• Operates multi channel communication by assisting visitors promptly and professionally via email, social media, phone, mail, and in person.
• Facilitates visitor arrangements by supporting requests for accommodations, tours, ferry reservations, and related services.
• Maintains comprehensive community knowledge on local activities, attractions, events, and services.
• Research community information to identify relevant events, facilities, and services of interest to visitors.
• Controls brochure and retail displays by organizing, stocking, and replenishing materials as required.
• Inputs and verifies visitor statistics in alignment with Tourism Tofino reporting standards.
• Maintains reference materials by updating files, resources, and Visitor Centre information on an ongoing basis.
• Posts current visitor updates including road conditions, weather, fisheries notices, and tourism alerts.
• Processes merchandise sales and completes accurate daily cash out reports.
• Provides onsite event support by delivering visitor services at festivals and special events.
• Adheres to uniform standards by wearing clean, well maintained designated attire and nametag during shifts.
• Participates in scheduled training including in service sessions, product knowledge workshops, familiarization tours, and site visits.
• Fulfils information requests and distributes Tourism Tofino materials while developing and maintaining strong member relations.
• Performs additional assigned duties
• Assist with yearly inventory
• Work at our downtown location during peak season
• Participate in weekly beach clean during July and August

• Minimum of grade 10
• Visitor Sales and Services Training (will be provided)
• Product knowledge training for this position will be provided upon commencement of employment
• Must have secured local accommodation. For camper vans and RVs, must have secured an approved place to park due to local bylaws
• Availability to work weekends
• Must be able to work standing and to lift 50lbs

• Interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and telephone)
• Friendly and outgoing demeanor
• Work well independently as well as part of a team
• Computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office, internet search and social media, or willingness to learn
• Willing to work weekends
• Customer service-oriented jobs and/or volunteer positions will qualify as appropriate

$21-$22/ hour
