Grade 7 Teacher – Maaqtusiis Elementary School
Only 35 minutes by water taxi from Tofino, Maaqtusiis Elementary School serves the Ahousaht Nation on the west coast of Vancouver Island. We are a trauma-informed school empowering strong, proud and resilient children to rise above the effects of colonization, residential schools, cultural genocide and racism. We are committed to reflecting and supporting the revitalization of Ahousaht culture and language. With 15-20 students per classroom from kindergarten to Grade 7, class sizes allow for high-quality instruction.
Duties & Responsibilities- Believes that a positive, inclusive and caring rapport with students is foundational to learning.
- Uses differentiated learning strategies to enable all students to reach their highest potential.
- Working as part of a team, modifies curricular benchmarks to meet the learning goals of students with exceptionalities.
- Create and incorporate classroom management that is inclusive to all students.
- Integrates culturally relevant subject matter, values and vocabulary into their curriculum delivery and classroom routines.
- Is a self-starter who is keen to learn about and participate in the local community life.
- Willing to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents and the community.
- Knowledgeable about the role and use of technology in supporting learning.

- BC Teachers certification or ability to attain one.
- Salary based on Port Alberni-District #70 salary grid and experience in Canadian accredited schools.
- Low rent for 1-3 bedroom units that come semi-furnished.
- Moving allowance to relocate to Ahousaht, $1000
- Annual isolation allowance, $3200
