Engineering Manager – The Mennel Milling Company

Job Summary

In this role, you will help sustain Mennel’s tradition of excellence established in 1886 as well as support our food safety programs and mission to reliably deliver superior quality, uniformity, and service. The Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the capex project planning and budgeting process, facility maintenance and reliability improvement, maintaining automation and electrical systems and project execution at the plant level within the Milling division.

Monday through Friday 8AM – 5PM. Can vary, depending on workload.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, development, execution, and management of engineering projects and continuous improvement initiatives across Mennel’s milling facilities.
  • Assemble and lead cross‑functional project teams; communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including both field and office personnel.
  • Implement and uphold Mennel’s standards for construction, electrical hardware, sanitary design, and installation.
  • Evaluate existing processes and facilities; recommend and execute improvements to enhance plant performance and operational reliability.
  • Ensure strong financial stewardship by adhering to budget guidelines and controlling project costs.
  • Collaborate with corporate and plant teams to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within scope, and on budget.
  • Manage all phases of project development, including concept design, scoping, technical drawings, reporting, research and development, proposal preparation, cost estimation, and coordination with contractors and third‑party engineering partners.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects, prioritizing effectively and ensuring consistent progress toward completion.
  • Collaborate with corporate and plant resources to implement Mennel’s Management of Change (MOC) process for applicable projects.
  • Ensure that all engineering and project activities comply with company policies and applicable regulations, including personnel safety, food safety, and housekeeping standards.
  • Apply Mennel’s Corporate Mission, Quality, and Safety Statements in all decision‑making and project execution activities.
  • Serve as a technical resource for the Operations team across the Milling Division and other corporate groups.
  • Maintain regular communication with Corporate Engineering and Operations teams to align on goals, priorities, and best practices.
  • Direct and coordinate project operations to ensure consistency with company policies and long‑term strategic objectives.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering department staff within the Milling Division.
  • Oversee performance management, workload allocation, and staff development initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Operations Management required.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of progressive engineering and/or operations experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple projects, and hold self and others accountable to results.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing systems, automation, and process design; familiar with current technologies, equipment, and industry trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute engineering projects through all stages from concept to completion.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills; able to interact productively with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities; solid understanding of process flow and operational efficiency.
  • Hands‑on, results‑oriented professional with initiative, independence, and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to learn new skills, assume new responsibilities, and adjust to changing business priorities.
  • Consistently strives for continuous improvement and performance optimization.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40%.
