Job DescriptionPlans, directs, and coordinates activities of civil‑industrial projects and large‑scale utility projects. Ensures that project goals are accomplished within prescribed time frames and funding parameters by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Analyze and understand plans and specifications.
- Follow administrative procedures as outlined in the Project Administration Manual.
- Inspect construction sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction/safety standards.
- Produce accurate schedules using CPM scheduling programs such as Primavera Project Planner.
- Supervise and coordinate submittal processes and working drawing requirements.
- Prepare or direct preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, environmental impact studies, and designs for the project as necessary.
- Provide contract interpretation and clarification.
- Maintain and update project schedules, working with the Project Superintendent and Assisting Project Superintendent on weekly forecast reviews.
- Understand cost and productivity data; maintain, verify, and report cost and income quantities for work performed.
- Review, approve, and submit progress billings.
- Analyze, prepare, and monitor job costs and production budgets.
- Work with the Superintendent to control job costs and production budget.
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely monthly cost, income, and cash‑flow projections.
- Execute and approve subcontractor requisitions and vendor invoices.
- Coordinate, price, and assist the Project Manager in settlement of change orders and claims.
- Respond to issues quickly; proactively solve problems and handle multiple tasks.
- Maintain efficient office and filing systems; organize and maintain accurate project correspondence files.
- Maintain subcontractor insurance certificate compliance.
- Maintain project compliance with underground utility notifications and location procedures (e.g., Miss Utility).
- Promote participation in 2‑week and long‑range planning with the job team; involve the team in all planning.
- Treat all coworkers with respect; work well with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Consistently apply and enforce the Safety Policy at all times.
- Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree (B.S.) from a four‑year college or university.
- More than 2 years of related experience.
Skills And Abilities
- Computer literate: proficient with spreadsheet and word processing programs, CPM scheduling software (e.g., Primavera Project Planner), Microsoft Office, and project management tools.
- Understanding of, and experience using, cost and productivity data.
- Clear and professional communication, both verbal and written, with the job team and owners.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Mathematical proficiency: fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry, ability to apply fractions and percentages to practical situations.
- Problem‑solving: define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, interpret technical instructions in various formats, and solve practical problems with limited standardization.
