Pretrial Assessment Officer – Common Pleas
Pay range: $26.09/hr – $26.09/hr
Shift: Third Shift (11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.), including weekends and holidays. Wed/Thu off.
Job Purpose and OverviewPerform pretrial assessments prior to arraignment to assist with judicial bond decisions and facilitate the reduction of the detention facility population.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Determine Defendant’s risk of failing to appear for court hearings or acquiring new criminal charges while in pretrial status through completion of a pretrial assessment report.
- Compile criminal history information for the Court using databases and public record searches.
- Process release of eligible Defendants prior to arraignment and assign court dates.
- Ensure Defendants understand their release conditions and next court date.
- Provide after‑hours coverage for critical alerts and file warrants for Electronic Monitoring.
- Ensure pretrial risk assessment reports and release paperwork are delivered to all area courts.
- Communicate with the Court regarding release inquiries/orders.
- Assist the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office in communicating hospital admission information to the Court.
- Complete reports and maintain an accurate log of completed tasks.
- Conduct in‑person interviews of Defendants.
- Remove electronic monitoring equipment from Defendants’ person.
- Assist with after‑hour bond procedure for the suburban municipal courts.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending applicable training as required.
- Minimum of an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Science, Psychology, or related field.
- NORIS/LEADS Certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with judges, court employees, law enforcement, attorneys, and the public.
- Ability to investigate, interpret, analyze, summarize, and apply information to make decisions.
- Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.
- Effective verbal and written communication in English for diverse audiences.
- Professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for the position.
- Demonstrated dependability, reliability, and excellent attendance record.
- Patience, objectivity, maturity, effectiveness under stress, initiative, adaptability, leadership, and sound judgment.
Additional consideration will be given to applicants who have experience in the criminal justice field.
