RRT / Registered Respiratory Therapist - Respiratory Care - Full Time - Nights

Up to a $20,000 sign on bonus depending on level of experience with up to a 2 year commitment.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Registered Respiratory Therapist will be competent to care for patients of all ages, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, depending on the assigned area. This individual performs duties outlined below with minimal supervision from the Respiratory Care Department leadership and Medical Directors, following regulatory standards and clinical guidelines. The therapist will often make independent decisions regarding therapy modifications in accordance with clinical practice guidelines, policies, and procedures.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Achieve and maintain competency to perform prescribed therapeutic and diagnostic procedures within their scope of practice, including general care, critical care, emergency care, and diagnostic procedures, such as:
    • General Care: patient identification and assessment, medical gas delivery, medication administration via nebulizers and MDI/DPI, bronchopulmonary hygiene, and hyperinflation therapy.
    • Critical Care: initiation, management, and weaning of invasive and non-invasive ventilation; airway management and suctioning, including tracheostomy, endotracheal, and pharyngeal; cuff and ETCO2 monitoring; intubation and extubation; setup, calibration, insertion, and maintenance of lines and catheters; high-risk newborn deliveries.
    • Emergency Care: respond to rapid responses and emergency codes; perform CPR and airway management; participate in patient stabilization and transports.
    • Diagnostic Care: blood sampling and analysis; specimen collection; monitoring; pulmonary function screens; EKGs.
  • Safely assemble, operate, and troubleshoot respiratory equipment, including gas delivery devices, mechanical ventilators, blood gas analyzers, age-specific patient care equipment, and sterilization processes.
  • Understand and apply Clinical Practice Guidelines to provide safe, efficient, and cost-effective care using evidence-based practices.
  • Educate patients on disease management, tobacco cessation, and respiratory care, including home care instructions.
  • Assist in clinical instruction and participate in orientation of new staff and growth of team members.
  • Follow all Respiratory Care and Hospital policies, functioning independently in assigned areas.
  • Complete accurate documentation, including billing and productivity, and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including cross-unit staffing as needed.
  • Qualifications include:

    • Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program and current RRT credential from NBRC.
    • Ability to input and retrieve data electronically.
    • Licensure to practice in Ohio and/or Michigan.
    • Current BLS certification; ACLS, NRP, and PALS preferred or required in some units. Membership in professional organizations encouraged.
