Job DescriptionThe Patient Registration Specialist performs all outpatient and inpatient registration functions, including insurance verification and cash collections, at the University of Toledo Medical Center. The role focuses on maintaining high customer satisfaction, ensuring accurate and efficient patient flow, and adhering to financial policies and requirements.
Responsibilities include complete and accurate registration and admission processing to maximize reimbursement, timely provision of patient information to providers, and cross‑functional collaboration at a fully integrated level.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Recent experience (within 2 years) in a hospital or physician office where the primary duty included registration; acceptable roles include Registration Specialist or Check‑in/Check‑out Clerk who enters patient demographic and insurance information into the system (testing may be given).
- Experience in a fast‑paced medical or hospital environment.
- Knowledge of medical insurance billing and reimbursement procedures.
- Proficient computer skills in a Windows–based environment; ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other essential software.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions accurately.
- Strong customer service orientation; ability to develop professional relationships with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and staff, and to handle confrontation and stressful situations calmly.
- Basic math skills for calculating discounts, percentages, and other financial figures; applicants may be tested.
- Visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20, including color vision.
- Hearing ability, with or without aids.
- Oral communication skills.
- Good manual dexterity.
- Ability to push, pull, roll, and transfer/lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, and kneel frequently.
- Ability to perform CPR if required for the position.
- Occasional carrying of items weighing up to 30 pounds.
