Responsibilities
- Provides legal counsel and services to Baptist Healthcare System, Inc. management and provides legal services for Baptist Healthcare System, Inc. and its affiliated companies as assigned by the Deputy General Counsel(s) and/or the Chief Legal & Regulatory Affairs Officer.
- Provides legal advice and services for Baptist Healthcare System, Inc. and its affiliated companies to assure that the organizational structure, business transactions, and operational activities comply with applicable laws and regulations.
- Provides legal advice to Baptist Healthcare System, Inc. and its affiliated companies involving general healthcare, patient care, regulatory, and compliance matters including HIPAA, guardianship, consent, billing, Medicare and Medicaid regulations, accreditation and licensure, anti‑kickback law, tax exemption and Stark law.
- Interprets and analyzes laws, regulations, case law, and government agency directives, and guidance, and OIG opinions for Baptist Healthcare System, Inc. and its affiliated companies.
- Assists with the development and review of policies and procedures that impact the operations of Baptist Healthcare System, Inc. and its affiliated companies, as assigned by the Deputy General Counsel(s).
- Prepares and/or reviews and revises contracts between Baptist Healthcare System, Inc. and its affiliated companies and outside agencies, organizations, and individuals.
- Doctorate degree with seven years' experience.
- Experience with complex healthcare transactions, acquisitions, joint ventures, interactions with government agencies, analyzing and advising on Stark, anti‑kickback, tax exempt and other relevant legal and regulatory compliance requirements applicable to healthcare transactions.
- Licensure by the Commonwealth of Kentucky or licensed in another state or eligible for licensure in Kentucky and membership in the Kentucky Bar Association.
