Job Description
The Vascular Access Nurse is a Registered Nurse with expertise in vascular access device placement. The nurse will assess patients and safely insert various vascular devices, including PICC lines (upper and lower extremity), mid-line IVs, intraosseous access, ultrasound-guided PIVs, central venous catheters, temporary hemodialysis catheters, and arterial lines. Experience in insertion and maintenance of these devices is required.
The nurse serves as a clinical expert, resource, and consultant for hospital staff regarding IV therapy, following professional standards, facility policies, and the standards of the Infusion Nurses Society and the Association of Vascular Access. Responsibilities include proficient use of vascular access equipment, troubleshooting, dressing central lines, and educating staff, patients, and families about vascular access and IV therapy.
The role requires adherence to age-specific care for pediatric to adult patients, reporting quality issues, data collection, and charge reconciliation. The nurse must hold a valid Ohio RN license, BLS, ACLS, and a driver’s license. VA-BC certification is preferred or required within one year. An ASN is required; a BSN is preferred. Experience of at least two years in vascular access device placement is preferred.
