Facility Maintenance Specialist 2 (Toledo)
Location: 180th Fighter Wing Toledo, 2660 South Eber Road, Swanton, Ohio
The purpose of the facility maintenance specialist occupation is to ensure that equipment & buildings are operational & efficient in non‑correctional &/or non‑institutional environments.
Responsibilities- Perform advanced preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs & installations for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, security & life‑safety, sustainable/green building technology systems.
- Inspect, install, maintain & repair electrical wiring systems, fixtures, motors, appliances, fans, transformers, heating & cooling equipment, bio‑safety fume hoods, laboratory equipment, rooftop exhaust fans, fire & other alarm systems, elevators, switches, lighting fixtures, ballasts, switches & fuses.
- Modify & repair plumbing including unclogging commodes, sinks, sewage lines; replace traps, valves & thermostats; maintain building facilities & equipment; inspect pipes, plumbing & fixtures for corrosion; lubricate pumps & valves; change filters.
- Perform routine maintenance for back‑flow prevention systems & specialized plumbing (RO piping, acid‑resistant piping).
- Operate polypropylene welder for RO water.
- Conduct minor repairs & routine preventive maintenance on HVAC & mechanical room equipment; service security & life‑safety systems; change belts, fluids, filters, lubricate equipment.
- Operate, reset & monitor direct‑digital automation controls for HVAC & mechanical equipment.
- Inspect boilers, clean & repair tubes, replace gaskets, remove scale & soot, inspect grates & combustion control equipment, operate low‑pressure boilers.
- Perform rough & finished carpentry work to construct, repair & install wood products (cabinets, countertops, play equipment, doors, shelves, bulletin boards).
- Fabricate, repair & install door framing, casings, locks, keys & windows; replace screen & window glass; install window air conditioners & door closures.
- Read blueprints; assist other trade workers; perform miscellaneous support duties (minor repairs on steam lines, digging ditches for pipe installation, operating snow‑ice removal equipment, grass‑cutting equipment, a backhoe, forklift, articulated boom).
- Maintain supply inventory, complete logs & reports, operate personal computer for data verification and record keeping.
- Make independent decisions on efficient performance of advanced inspections, repairs, preventive maintenance & installations; meet with agency personnel to gather information on maintenance problems; advise on maintenance breakdown prevention.
- Post‑secondary training in facilities maintenance technology, industrial trades technology or comparable training program.
- At least 3 years of experience in construction/building maintenance that included carpentry, electrical, plumbing & HVAC.
- For Department of Agriculture positions: training must include polypropylene welding and basic commercial refrigeration systems, plus 3 years of experience repairing basic laboratory equipment (autoclave, deionized water systems, laboratory exhaust hoods).
- If the position requires operating motorized equipment regulated by Sections 4506.1, 4506.03 & 4506.12 of O.R.C., a valid commercial driver’s license is required.
- Valid driver license required if operating a state vehicle.
