PurposeThe job of the Teacher responsibilities includes helping students develop an awareness and appreciation of learning and academic achievement. The teacher must incorporate the responsibilities of the District Strategic Plan of preparing students for college, career, and life-ready situations, communication, and partnerships, and creating a highly effective workforce. The teacher must be a relationship builder, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be well trained in content knowledge and teaching strategies including the use of primary sources and inquiry-based instruction.
QualificationsRequired
- Appropriately certified with a valid Arizona Teaching Certificate in subject area.
- Proficiency in the following teacher competency standards:
- Design and Plans Instruction.

- Assesses Learning and Communicates Results.
- Collaborates with Colleagues, Parents, and Others.
- Engages in Professional Development and Responsibilities.
- Valid AZ Department of Public Safety (DPS) Identity Verified Print (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Bachelor's degree in subject area, Education, or related field.
- Master's degree in subject area, Education, Administration, or related field.
- Endorsements in any related field.
- Teaching experience in a secondary educational setting.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Create and deliver curriculum that promotes a positive learning climate with rigor and relevance.
- Plan, develop, and execute lesson plans; provide instruction for individual students, small groups, and remedial instruction to meet identified needs.
- Assess student learning using a variety of formal and informal methods.
- Apply best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment; support and extend instruction and student learning.
- Prepare and correct examinations, proctoring, and substitution.
- Inform instruction through ongoing assessment of student learning.
- Apply knowledge of school law and district policy.
- Conduct conferences with students and parents; provide individual guidance, faculty committee service, and address departmental and school problems.
- Provide synchronous and asynchronous remote learning instruction when directed.
- Utilize digital applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Synergy, Power Point, Nearpod, Teams.
- Participate in student study teams, 504 planning, and IEP processes.
- Manage attendance and grading on the approved district platform.
- Communicate policies and programs as part of the certified instruction team.
- Assist in safety inspections, drill practices, and safety plan preparation.
- Proctor all state and school-based assessments and site testing.
- Use student data to inform decision making, develop and modify curriculum, and design targeted instruction.
- Implement district-adopted curricular resources and complete required school reports.
- Determine curricular and instructional resource needs; communicate ordering needs with Department Chair or Principal.
- Perform related duties as assigned to ensure the effective functioning of the work unit.
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies include: talk and hear; use hands to touch, handle, or feel objects; type or enter data using a computer keyboard; operate standard office equipment; plan and manage projects; and prepare accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform advanced math, read technical information, compose documents, and facilitate group discussions. Specific knowledge-based competencies include: classroom management and grammatical concepts.
ABILITY is required to schedule classroom activities and events, gather and collate data, and use job-related equipment. Flexibility, problem solving, communication with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, meeting deadlines, setting priorities, and establishing working relationships are essential.
