Equipment Engineer – Corning Incorporated
Base pay range: $65,406.00/yr - $98,934.00/yr
Role PurposeThe equipment engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of production equipment across the facility. They will lead the investigation and resolution of major equipment anomalies, conduct root‑cause analysis, and implement effective corrective actions to minimize downtime and improve quality. This role will also coach and support operational engineers, drive equipment optimization projects, and partner closely with supervisors to strengthen troubleshooting capability, safety, and operational excellence.
The equipment engineer will be a key contributor to innovation, process improvement, and the ongoing development of best‑in‑class manufacturing performance.
- Lead the organization of data for major downtime anomalies, analyze and implement corrective actions for equipment‑caused quality anomalies (meeting 4D, 8D standards), and ensure 100% implementation of measures.
- Undertake the department's KPI indicators and ensure a 100% completion rate for the responsible indicators.
- Responsible for promoting equipment improvement and innovation projects in the area.
- Undertake QCC special activities arranged by superiors and develop Gantt charts to ensure timely completion of plans.
- Output technical reports and conduct technical training session per month, based on training attendance records.
- Responsible for area‑specific technical improvement projects, with the ability to independently design solutions, manage processes, and summarize projects.
- Design engineer skills exam papers and submit them to superiors for review.
- Spare parts management.
- Responsible for establishing and updating operating specifications for the equipment under jurisdiction, in collaboration with department clerks to ensure effective document updates.
- Assist superiors in identifying equipment safety risks and preventing accidents from occurring.
- Responsible for communicating with manufacturers regarding the main issues with equipment and improvement directions.
- Responsible for meeting departmental and company‑level improvement and innovation indicator requirements within the region and fostering engineers' improvement awareness and thinking.
- Assist supervisors in auditing production line 5S and standardization of operations.
- Adhere to all Corning and OSHA rules and regulations at all times; and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds.
Flexible schedule required to spend time on shop floor across all shifts, perform training, participate in customer calls and meetings. Core work hours are 8am‑5pm typically.
Experiences/Education – Required- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, automation or related field required.
- Proficiency in electrical or mechanical maintenance skills, mechanical design, circuit design, or programming.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, organizational and coordination abilities, team‑building skills, comprehension skills, and innovation capabilities.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- In‑depth knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Experience in solar module or wafer manufacturing.
- Experience in glass manufacturing.
- Experience in manufacturing in clean environments.
