The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing individualized, age‑specific, goal‑directed care. The RN assesses the needs of the patient/client in order to develop a plan of care and then implements and evaluates the plan. The RN bases the plan of care on current nursing knowledge/skills and institutional methodology. The RN accepts assignments that are commensurate with his/her experience, knowledge and ability.

The RN delegates tasks to the licensed and unlicensed personnel according to the Texas Nurse Practice Act and hospital policy.

• Performs comprehensive nursing assessments of health status of patients.
• Formulates a nursing care plan based on determination of nursing diagnoses.
• Implements nursing care within the RN’s scope of practice.
• Develops and implements teaching plans for patients concerning promotion, maintenance and restoration of health.
• Provides for care of multiple patients either through direct care or appropriate delegation to other team members.
• Utilizes critical thinking approach to all nursing activities.
• Participates in continuing education and in‑service training in order to maintain current nursing knowledge/skills to perform job responsibilities.

• Graduate of an approved and accredited nursing program.
• ADN required, Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
• Current RN Licensure in the State of Texas.
• Current BCLS certification required.
• ACLS certification within 30 days of hire.
• NRP certification within 30 days of hire.
• 1 year of Postpartum or Mother/Baby experience.
