Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, in collaboration with Ocean Health Initiatives, Inc. (OHI), staff physicians, CNMs, and APNs, will provide women’s healthcare services to OHI patients that are consistent with established policies, procedures and protocols, OSHA standards, and other safety and health related codes and laws.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and manage individual women’s health patient care in collaboration with the chief medical officer, staff physicians, CNMs, and APNs.
  • Work cooperatively with all providers and staff to carry out the goals and objectives of OHI, and meet productivity based on established policies and procedures.
  • Provide continuing care to assigned patients in the office setting, anticipate and recognize deviations from normal, initiate treatment, and consult with a physician as appropriate.
  • Order diagnostic tests, medications, and lab tests as indicated. Analyze, interpret, and synthesize data and apply information to patient management.
  • Provide education and counseling for patients, families, and community groups on various health conditions.
  • Function as a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of clinic policies, procedures, and protocols as needed to achieve OHI goals and objectives.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of OHI Performance Improvement programs.
  • Be accountable for encounter productivity, quality measures, and family planning.
  • Attend and actively participate in departmental and medical staff meetings as required.
  • Support health center colleagues with internal referrals when clinically appropriate.
  • Collect patient information and records, including medical history and examination results.
  • Ensure all patient charts justify prescribed treatment and include findings/progress and plan of care in accordance with OHI policy and procedures.
  • Provide medical care for all individuals without regard to ability to pay, race, color, origin or creed, according to OHI policy.
  • Provide consultation, guidance, and direction to medical support staff to ensure continuity and quality of care services.
  • Complete all paperwork requirements for billing and medical records compliance in a timely manner.
  • Advise patients on good health practices.
  • Refer patients to specialists when required and in accordance with their insurance restrictions.
  • Develop and implement goals and objectives to ensure high quality, cost-effective clinical care.
  • Ensure all patient charts are completed within 24 hours of the patient visit and that charting is accurate to support clinical and documentation requirements via EMR.
  • Actively participate in OHI’s performance improvement process, departmental meetings, and other OHI meetings as scheduled.
  • Be willing to work evenings and weekends at all OHI sites as needed.
  • Be willing to provide on-call services as scheduled.
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings such as the traditional office, mobile medical unit, etc.
  • Ability to verbally communicate with diverse individuals and groups and work with patients of different cultures.
  • Work within a team setting and relate to the special needs of the patient population.
  • Provide consultation, guidance, and direction to clinical support staff to ensure continuity and quality of services and care.
  • Maintain a high level of professional skills and knowledge through continuing education.
  • Promote patient satisfaction by communicating with patients in a caring and compassionate manner.
  • Present information to patients at an educational level consistent with their understanding.
  • Listen attentively to patient complaints and resolve or refer as appropriate.
  • Comply with treatment protocols as they are developed and implemented.
  • Demonstrate concern for patient rights, privacy, and dignity.
