Position: Pastoral Support Assistant – Peckham, Southwark – September Start
A secondary school in Peckham Southwark is looking for a Pastoral Support Assistant to support pupils who need help with behaviour attendance confidence and school engagement. This role sits between behaviour pastoral care and keeping pupils engaged in school. This is a long-term role starting in September 2026 with strong potential to continue across the academic year. This role is suited to someone who can build relationships quickly while still holding clear boundaries.

You will be working with pupils who may need mentoring emotional support or help staying on track during the school day. What the role involves:

- Pastoral and behaviour support for secondary-aged pupils
- Helping pupils manage routines expectations and relationships
- Working with teachers pastoral leads and safeguarding staff
- Supporting pupils before issues become bigger problems What they are looking for:

- Experience in schools youth work mentoring behaviour support or pastoral care
- Calm and professional communication
- Confidence working with pupils who may push boundaries
- Someone reliable mature and consistent Pay: 95 - 115 per day

Postgraduate qualification or accredited training in SEND (e.g. National Award for SEN Coordination Autism Education Trust dyslexia/SpLD or SEMH)

Makaton PECS AAC using evidence-based interventions such as TEACCH SCERTS or Positive Behaviour in Team-Teach MAPA or similar de-escalation and safe-handling with assistive ed-tech tools and adaptive software
