USU Tooele Math Tutor

Overview

The USU Tooele Campus seeks a qualified Math Tutor. The successful applicant will operate within Tooele Student Services, serving primarily as a tutor for students taking general MATH and Algebra courses MATH 0950, 0995, 1050, 1051, 1210, 2010 and 2020 with potential for trigonometry, calculus, and related courses. Tutors are expected to conduct their sessions 100% from the Tooele Campus (no remote from home).

Exact hours will be assigned by the supervisor based on student needs and courses taught during the semester. Schedule will be primarily in the evenings.

• Spring 2026 semester, January 5, 2026 – May 31, 2026
• Potential to continue for other semesters

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Math Tutor for students taking general Algebra and MATH 0950, 0995, 1050, 1051, 1210, 2010 and 2020
• Conduct tutoring sessions in person and through Zoom online (on campus)
• Provide help with understanding of course content, homework, review exams, and/or explain concepts recently discussed in classes
• Work with Tooele’s Campus Resource Specialist throughout semester to assess student needs and update practices.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must be willing to attend training on online tutoring system
• Ability to work a flexible schedule
• Proficient in College Algebra, including MATH 1050 or higher (or equivalent)

Preferred Qualifications

• MATH 1050 (College Algebra)
• MATH 1060 (Trigonometry)
• MATH 1210 and/or 1220 (Calculus)

Cognitive Requirements

Math Requirements

Perform simple addition and subtraction, reading and copying of figures, or counting and recording.

Communication Requirements - Speech

Expression of a level to communicate verbally with clients/customers and others to obtain and provide basic information. Able to communicate by telephone. Capable of explaining routine policies and of properly referring more complex cases.

Communication Requirements - Comprehension

Comprehension and expression of a level to record fairly uncomplicated information frequently such as filling in report forms, logging entries and taking telephone messages.
