Position OverviewStudent Circulation Assistants at Anschutz Library provide helpful and friendly assistance to library patrons at the circulation desk. Regular tasks include checking items in/out, shelving items, answering patron questions about library services and resources, and occasional assistance with special projects. Anschutz student workers also provide staffing for the Spahr Engineering Library desk while classes are in session.
Job Description- 35% – Provide friendly and helpful assistance to library patrons. This includes answering patron questions, providing general information and directional guidance, and referrals to University sources using appropriate library resources.
- 25% – Check in/out, organize, and shelve library materials.
- 15% – Perform a variety of collection maintenance duties, including shelving and shifting materials.
- 15% – Assist patrons with and maintain library technology and equipment.
- 10% – Other related duties as assigned.
- Demonstrated personal communication skills, as evidenced by application materials.
- Basic computer skills, as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Previous work or volunteer experience providing customer service.
- Library work experience and/or knowledge of KU Libraries as a user as evidenced by application materials.
- Demonstrated computer and research skills, including knowledge of Voyager library system, database and web searching, and word processing, as evidenced in application materials.
- Work study eligibility.
- Availability to work all year, including breaks as evidenced by application materials.
- Knowledge of Library of Congress classification system, as evidenced in application materials.
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
- Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
- This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
- Monday - Thursday: 7:45 am - midnight
- Friday: 7:45 am - 6 pm
- Saturday: 11:45 am - 5 pm
- Sunday: 11:45 am - midnight
