Position Overview
Position is in the Kansas Geological Survey (KGS) public library, archiving state geological records entering data and assisting staff and customers in person. The KGS is located on West Campus. Hours must be worked between 8 a.m.
-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Flexibility is allowed within those hours and with the start date.
- 75% - Enter data and scan records, proof data and scans.
- 15% - Sort, organize, incorporate, and file records.
- 5% - Communicate effectively with supervisor, staff, and patrons requesting information.
- 5% - Other duties as directed.
Provide clear information on your resume and cover letter showing how you meet the following:
- Experience with data entry.
- Demonstrated attention to detail as evidenced by application materials.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must:
1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or
2) be pre‑enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or
3) be enrolled in summer session or
4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)
Provide clear information on your resume and cover letter showing how you meet the following:
- Coursework or expressed interest in geology, geography or other earth sciences as stated or evidenced by application materials.
- Experience with or knowledge of the water well industry and/or oil production operations as evidenced by application materials.
- Push rolling bookcases in confined area, climb step ladders, and lift 25 pounds or more, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work in storage areas, capable of occasionally working with old documents which may be dusty, musty, or moldy, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work a minimum of 2 hours per shift.
- Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
- This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
