Pay range: $50,500.00/yr - $74,600.00/yr (actual pay based on skills and experience).
Reports To:
Building Principal.
Topeka Public Schools science educators demonstrate a commitment to learning for all students by maintaining organized, student-centered classrooms, presenting content-rich and standards-based lessons and activities, meeting individual needs through assessment and data, and using a variety of instructional strategies reflective of current best practices and research.
Qualifications- ESOL endorsement preferred.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- A completed credential file that meets Topeka Public School standards.
- Professional verification of successful classroom teacher performance and/or student teaching experience.
- Evidence of willingness and ability to comply with standards for ethical and professional performance established by the State Board of Education.
- Regular and predictable attendance essential.
Employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, and hear; stand and reach with hands and arms; lift up to 25 pounds occasionally; maintain vision abilities (close, distance, depth perception, focus adjustment). Employees interact with staff, meet demands from several people, are responsible for the work output of others, and may work extended hours.
Performance Responsibilities- Teach general science, earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and physiology concepts to pupils.
- Plan and deliver a science program that includes demonstrations, lectures, discussions, and student experiments.
- Organize laboratory activities for optimal learning.
- Demonstrate scientific concepts using scientific apparatus, experiments, and instructional aids.
- Instruct pupils in proper safe handling of chemicals, equipment, and plant and animal life.
- Provide for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment, and tools.
- Modify teaching to meet individual student needs.
- Communicate high expectations to all learners.
- Listen and respond appropriately to suggestions, requests, and concerns.
- Incorporate the use of appropriate technology.
- Implement district-adopted curriculum effectively.
- Use research-based instructional practices and current resources to support instructional goals.
- Model and facilitate higher-order thinking, problem solving, creativity, and flexibility.
- Integrate a variety of informal and formal assessments into instruction.
- Use data for instructional decisions.
- Make students aware of assessment standards/learner expectations.
- Assist students in developing self-assessment skills.
- Maintain up-to-date records of student progress.
- Create a positive, inviting, safe learning environment.
- Develop, model, and practice procedures and routines.
- Communicate realistic and consistent expectations for student behavior and apply appropriate consequences.
- Demonstrate conflict resolution skills.
- Model enthusiasm for learning and teaching.
- Treat students, patrons, and colleagues with dignity and respect.
- Use monitoring techniques to facilitate learning.
- Show knowledge of how subject matter/disciplines are integrated.
- Show how subject matter is organized.
- Communicate effectively and promote positive interpersonal relationships.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior for an orderly, productive environment during instructional activities.
- Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Oversee assigned budgets.
- Support the District’s educational mission for all students and implement all Board regulations and policies fairly and equitably.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
10.5 months; salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.
