Assistant Teaching Professor of Animation
Join the Faculty of the Department of Design at the University of Kansas to teach in the newly established Animation program.
Position OverviewThe Department of Design is seeking an Assistant Teaching Professor to work with undergraduate students in its Animation program. Candidates should bring passion for visual storytelling and robust professional practice, with experience in teaching, curriculum development, and industry-standard tools.
Responsibilities- Teaching/Advising (60%) – Design and deliver a 3/3 course load in animation and related courses, participate in curriculum development, and provide student advising.
- Research and/ or Applied Professional Practice (20%) – Conduct creative or professional work focused on animation, collaborate with clients, and disseminate results through publications and conferences.
- Service (20%) – Serve the department, university, and profession through meetings, committees, and administrative duties.
- Master’s degree in animation, illustration, entertainment design, film, visual communications, or a related field.
- Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of professional experience and a strong portfolio.
- Portfolio demonstrating expertise in 2D/3D animation and related fields.
- Commitment to collaboration, curriculum development, and expansion of studio offerings.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
