Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications.

The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Develops and facilitates implementation of environmental, safety and Hygiene strategies to minimize risk and to ensure environmental, safety and Hygiene compliance with applicable regulatory, certifications and corporate Environmental,Safety and Hygiene requirements. Key point of contact for all safety, Hygiene, and environmental systems and related activity. Drive continuous improvement in workplace safety, Hygiene, and environmental systems, including establishing a “culture of safety”

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct the implementation of the facility’s ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) and Safety and Hygiene Management System (SMS).
  • Support risk assessments and mitigation activities to identify and control unsafe or non-compliant conditions.
  • Lead root cause analysis for incidents, near misses, or non-compliance events.
  • Coordinate and communicate responsibilities related to SMS and EMS, ensuring all employees understand their roles and performance expectations.
  • Facilitate annual and long-term review of safety and environmental plans, making adjustments as needed to address deficiencies.
  • Guide internal staff, contractors, and suppliers to maintain environmental and safety compliance.
  • Review projects and purchases to proactively address environmental, safety, and hygiene issues.
  • Assign safety and hygiene responsibilities to qualified employees as appropriate.
  • Stay updated on new regulations, standards, or workplace changes affecting safety or environmental compliance.
  • Analyze and interpret environmental, accident, and exposure data; compile reports for management.
  • Collaborate with management to set and achieve both annual and multi-year safety and environmental improvement goals.
  • Provide consultation, education, and training support on environmental, safety, and hygiene matters.
  • Identify and recommend controls for environmental and workplace safety hazards.
  • Communicate relevant environmental and safety regulations to all facility personnel.
  • Oversee compliance with environmental permits and manage related data.
  • Participate in safety and environmental audits, inspections, and investigations.
  • Support projects and collaborate with internal and external resources to promote best practices.
  • Assist with site hygiene initiatives and administration of the workers’ compensation program.
Experiences/Education - Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Hygiene, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • 7–10 years of direct experience in Environmental, Safety & Hygiene roles.
  • Certification of ISO 14001, OSHA/OHSAS standards, and environmental/safety regulations.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated experience driving continuous ESH improvement.
  • Experience with risk assessments, incident root cause analysis, and ESH
