This senior-level role is ideal for someone who enjoys being hands-on with systems and infrastructure while also serving as a trusted technical resource for users and fellow IT team members. You’ll work closely with staff across the agency, vendors, and IT leadership to ensure KPERS technology systems remain stable, secure, and well-supported.

  • Provide hands‑on technical support during Agency Board Meetings and other mission‑critical events, helping ensure technology works when it matters most.

Server & Application Management

  • Lead the standardized installation, configuration, and lifecycle management of applications and services hosted on physical and virtual servers.
  • Test, validate, and document new technologies and configurations in non‑production environments before deployment, supporting a culture of stability and continuous improvement.

Standards, Patching & Change Management

  • Ensure server builds and configurations meet KPERS standards, security baselines, and change management requirements.
  • Apply, verify, and document monthly security patches and system updates.

Security Software & Monitoring

  • Ensure servers and endpoints are protected with required security tools, including antivirus, anti‑malware, and endpoint protection platforms.
  • Monitor alerts, respond appropriately, and coordinate remediation efforts in a timely and collaborative manner.

Backup & Disaster Recovery

  • Monitor and maintain server, file, and application backups in accordance with KPERS disaster recovery policies.
  • Troubleshoot backup issues, perform restore testing, and serve as a key contributor during bi‑annual disaster recovery preparation and testing.

Virtualization, Storage & Infrastructure

  • Serve as a technical lead for virtual server environments, storage platforms, and hypervisors, ensuring alignment with KPERS standards, NIST guidance, and vendor best practices.
  • Maintain systems on supported releases, apply updates, and document changes through established processes.

Monitoring, Archiving & Governance

  • Support and maintain infrastructure monitoring tools, ensuring alerts are reviewed, documented, and resolved.
  • Lead support of enterprise archiving solutions to protect sensitive data and meet governance and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage hardware and asset inventories and serve as the primary contact for hardware lifecycle tracking, audits, and end‑of‑life processes.
