Position Title:
Print Shop Supervisor
Department: Printing & Copy Services
Reports To: Building Administrator
The Print Shop Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and producing high-quality printed materials for all departments, faculty, staff, students, and campus organizations. This position operates a variety of digital printing, finishing, and bindery equipment, ensures timely completion of print jobs, maintains supply inventory, and delivers excellent customer service.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Operate and maintain digital production printers, copiers, wide-format printers, and related finishing equipment (folding, binding, laminating, cutting, stapling, booklet making, etc.).
- Review incoming print requests for accuracy, completeness, print specifications, timelines, and cost effectiveness.
- Prepare files for production, including basic formatting, layout adjustments, and print-ready modifications.
- Prioritize daily workload to ensure deadlines are met.
- Conduct routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor troubleshooting of print equipment; coordinate service calls when needed.
- Monitor consumables (toner, paper, bindery supplies) and maintain adequate inventory.
- Maintain accurate records of job requests, paper usage, print volumes, billing information, and production logs.
- Provide exceptional customer service by assisting faculty, staff, and students with printing needs, cost estimates, timelines, and project guidance.
- Coordinate delivery processes related to print shop output, as assigned.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and organized print shop environment.
- Support continuous improvement efforts, including workflow optimization, cost-saving initiatives, and upgrading production capabilities.
- Collaborate with program coordinators to facilitate the production process.
- Supervise, train, and schedule student workers assigned to the print shop; provide day‑to‑day direction, ensure adherence to safety procedures, and monitor quality of work.
- Work directly with student employees in the production of print shop materials, offering hands‑on instruction in equipment operation, print workflows, and finishing processes while reinforcing professional workplace standards.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience working in a print shop, reprographics center, or production environment.
- Knowledge of print equipment operation, digital workflows, and finishing methods.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality control.
- Ability to multitask, manage deadlines, and work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Associate degree or vocational training in graphic design, Fiery, or a related field.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
- Experience with production‑level devices.
- Knowledge of cost estimating and internal chargeback systems.
- Ability to lift 40–50 lbs. (paper boxes, print materials, equipment supplies).
- Frequent standing, bending, lifting, and walking throughout the workday.
- Ability to operate cutting and finishing equipment safely.
- Fast‑paced print production environment with exposure to noise, toner, paper dust, and mechanical equipment.
- Standard work hours Monday–Friday; occasional overtime during peak academic periods or major campus events.
