Director of Nursing – Midwest Health, Inc. – Topeka, KS
KeyJob Duties and Responsibilities
- Comply with the facility’s personnel, safety, and corporate policies and procedures.
- Comply with the nursing department’s policies and procedures.
- Treat residents, family members, visitors, and team members with respect and dignity.
- Complete in‑service training assignments in a timely manner.
- Report to work on time and as scheduled.
- Collaborate with the administrator, consultants, and facility staff to plan all aspects of nursing services.
- Monitor department activities and communicate policies.
- Assist in coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care.
- Implement and monitor policies, procedures and forms for use in the facility; participate in facility surveys and inspections.
- Develop and update resident discharge plans; evaluate performance, coach and discipline staff as needed.
- Maintain records, manage budgets and supplies.
- Ensure that equipment and work areas are clean, safe, and orderly; enforce universal precautions, infection control, isolation, fire, safety and sanitation practices.
- Conduct regular rounds to monitor resident care.
- Ensure medication administration is in accordance with nursing standards and facility policies.
- Monitor admissions, discharges and transfers for compliance with policies and regulations; assist in resolving complaints and grievances.
- Ensure staff compliance with residents’ rights; report violations.
- Encourage physicians to record and sign progress notes and orders on time.
- Review documentation to ensure it reflects care provided and residents’ responses.
- Assist with nursing schedule during staffing issues.
- Recruit and hire qualified staff.
- Maintain a positive morale and respectful environment.
- Regular worksite attendance.
- Valid RN license in good standing with the state.
- Valid CPR certification.
- Successful completion of company’s Motor Vehicles policy if required.
- Basic computer skills.
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Availability for on‑call duties.
- Ability to work beyond normal hours, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
- Ability to assist in evacuation of residents during emergencies.
- Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Use of transfer/gait belt when lifting residents; awareness of safe movement practices.
- Physical lifting capabilities: up to 10 lbs constantly, 11–25 lbs occasionally, 26–50 lbs rarely, over 50 lbs rarely; carrying up to 10 lbs frequently, 11–25 lbs occasionally, 26–50 lbs rarely, over 50 lbs not required.
- Reach above shoulder height frequently; at shoulder height constantly; below shoulder height frequently.
- Push/Pull frequently.
- Hand manipulation: grasping, handling constantly; torquing occasionally; fingering constantly.
- No requirement for twisting, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling, crouching, climbing, balancing.
- Employees may be required to operate automobile and various games.
- Relate to ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and hostile people within the facility.
- Be able to see and hear or use prosthetics to ensure job requirements are met.
