Overview
The City of Topeka's Street division is seeking a hard-working individual to join its team as a Street Maintenance Worker Trainee. This position performs a variety of manual labor in the maintenance of street surfaces, curbs and gutters, and snow and ice control. This includes pick and shovel work, asphalt patching, crack sealing, placing concrete, spreading rock, transporting construction material, and operating snow and ice removal equipment.
This is an entry-level position with an excellent field training program to assist incumbents in obtaining the skills needed for advancement. Trainees will receive training and assistance on company-paid time to obtain a Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL), which is required by the conclusion of the six-month initial hire probationary period. Training, study time, and equipment are all provided by the City.
This is steady, year-round employment. Incumbents must be available for after-hour snow/ice and other emergency work as needed.
Requirements- Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 18 years of age at time of hire.
This position starts at $19.97 per hour with an increase to $20.97 per hour following the successful completion of the six-month initial-hire probationary period.
