Intramural Basketball Official – Student Hourly
Recreation Services and the Intramural Sports program are seeking students to join our team as an Intramural Basketball Official for the spring 2025 Intramural Basketball season. The Intramural Basketball Official is responsible for providing an atmosphere of fun in a competitive, yet safe, environment. Officials must implement Intramural Sports policies and sport specific rules to maintain control, fairness, and safety. They should maintain a positive attitude on‑site and continually improve their umpiring skills.
No prior officiating experience is needed; all training will be provided by student supervisors before work begins. Participation in Intramural Sports is encouraged.

This is a seasonal position (January through March) with the opportunity to also officiate other sports throughout the spring 2026 semester.
Job DescriptionThe duties of an Intramural Basketball Official include:
- 80% Officiating Intramural Basketball games
- Participant check‑in
- Pre‑game captain's meeting
- Participant safety by unbiased rule enforcement
- 10% Documentation of games
- Record scores on iPad and on the scoreboard
- Verify final scores and sign score sheets
- Assign Sportsmanship Ratings
- 5% Court set up
- 5% Other duties as assigned
- Work history requiring moderate physical activity for up to four hours at a time
- Baseline knowledge of basketball
- Current NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification or willingness to obtain within first month of employment
- Previous umpiring/officiating or sports participation experience as demonstrated in application materials
- Willingness to learn, demonstrated in application materials
- Professional and cooperative demeanor, demonstrated in application materials
During the semester, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods, the student hourly must have been enrolled in at least 6 hours in the past spring semester or be pre‑enrolled in the upcoming fall semester for at least 6 hours, or be enrolled in summer session, or be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
EmploymentConditions
- Student employees are not eligible for remote work unless approved by unit leadership and HR.
- This is an hourly/non‑exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non‑exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position concurrently.
- Availability to work on Sundays.
- Availability to attend all three dates of paid Intramural Basketball Officials Training:
Wednesday, January 28 5:00‑8:00 p.m.;
Thursday, January 29 5:00‑7:00 p.m.;
Tuesday, February 3 5:30‑7:30 p.m.

Advertised Salary RangeCompensation starts at $11.10/hour with opportunities for advancement.
