Holy Trinity Elementary, Torbay

Full time TERM position of Reading Specialist at Holy Trinity Elementary, Torbay. Duties to commence September 22, 2025 to June 26, 2026. This is a school-based position working collaboratively with NLSchools and school personnel to support responsive teaching and learning in literacy with a focus on reading. A reading specialist is a reflective, self-directed, lifelong learner, who will mentor teachers to improve efficacy in the teaching of reading.

Collaborate with school personnel to promote student success in a safe and caring environment where engagement, equity and excellence are fostered. Mentor teachers to improve reading instruction and assessment, applying the 7 Determinants of the School Development Model:
Wellness and Positive Relationships;
Optimal Learning Environments;
Instructional Practice;
Assessment Practices;
Collective Efficacy;
Evidence-based Decision Making; and Teachers as Learners.

• Current knowledge of research and evidence-based practices in reading instruction.
• Self-directed learner who engages in sustained professional learning.
• Demonstrated proficiency in evidence-based teaching and assessment of reading.
• Experience in collecting and analyzing evidence of student learning.
• Models, promotes, and uses responsive teaching to meet the needs of students who are experiencing difficulties and those who are very capable.
• Experience in creating and co-creating professional learning opportunities for school and educators.
• Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated understanding of professional learning models for educators.
• Leverages technology to promote equity in professional collaborative learning networks.
• Strong leadership skills enabling advocacy in literacy learning by establishing trusting relationships with students, teachers and families.
• Willingness to work in more than one school, if assigned.

• Primary/Elementary Undergraduate Degree.
• 5 years of successful teaching experience in K-6.
• Masters of Education (Reading/Literacy, Teaching and Learning) would be an asset.
• Equivalencies will be considered.

Annual Teacher Salary Scale contained within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement and benefits contained within the agreement.
