Position Overview
Title: 1.0 English Language Arts Department Head Position
Location: Juniper Ridge Intermediate, 20 Darryl Pye Drive, Torbay, A1K 0C8

Full‑time TERM position. Duties commence September 8, 2026, until June 25, 2027.
Responsibilities- Part of the school leadership team; commit to school goals for student success in an inclusive, safe environment.
- Provide direction and support to teachers in curriculum delivery for specific subject area(s) of expertise.
- Assist in the annual staffing plans, ensuring the school is programmed and scheduled appropriately to meet the needs of all students.
- Facilitate school‑based collaboration related to service delivery.
- Provide curriculum advice to school administrators and collaborate with regional and department staff.
- Coordinate professional development for program initiatives and build strengths within the department.
- Develop and deliver professional development for school and department initiatives.
- Apply the Atlantic Provinces Standards of Practice for School‑based Administrators, including leading for learning, managing change, engaging families, shaping a safe and inclusive environment, building leadership potential, demonstrating professionalism, promoting health and well‑being, and managing school operations and resources.
- Knowledge of outcomes, content expertise, and teaching methodology for department subjects.
- Leadership and direction in a collaborative team environment, supporting the direction set by the school principal.
- Extensive knowledge of child development and the diverse learning needs of students.
- Experience providing instructional leadership to promote student learning and using data to drive continuous improvement.
- Coaching and mentoring of teachers on instructional and assessment practices.
- Leadership in the development and delivery of professional development for school and department initiatives.
- Initiating and implementing change in consultation with the school principal.
- Commitment to culturally relevant instruction and assessment for all students.
- Bachelor of Education – Secondary
- Master’s Degree in a relevant area
- NL Teaching Certificate – Level IV or higher
- English Language Arts – Major (10 courses) in applicable subject area
- Minimum five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience
- Experience as curriculum leader at the school and provincial level
Annual teacher salary scale within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement and benefits as outlined in the agreement.
Applicants without the required qualifications may be considered in accordance with Clause 37.01(d) of the provincial collective agreement.
