We are looking for a dynamic Senior Accountant to cover a one-year maternity leave for our family office. The Senior Accountant, serving two families, will work in a complex and fast-paced environment with quickly changing priorities.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Principals and an Administrative Assistant to support the family members and will have the opportunity to work on complex projects.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in corporate accounting, with expertise in tax and estate planning. In this role, you will be managing a complex, multi-family office and have the opportunity to work on dynamic investment portfolio transactions. WhatWill You Do?
Family-Owned Investment Holding Companies/Foundations:
- Responsible for the maintenance and reconciliation of all accounting books, financial records for a multi-family office, including investment accounts primarily in alternative investments
- Liaise with external accountants for the coordination and preparation of Canadian tax returns
- Prepare cash flow reporting and cash management (rollover of deposits, etc.)
- Responsible for all statutory filings, assistance in development of investment policies, hiring of investment managers, monitor compliance investment policies and ad hoc services based on the needs of the Principals
- Ownership in the preparation of all personal financial statements including statements of net worth
- Proactive co-ordination of estate, insurance, and tax planning, as well as co-ordination of preparation of Canadian personal income tax returns (cash management, full record and file keeping, coordination with other professional advisors)
- 3+ years of experience recording financial transactions in a professional services environment
- Highly organized, detail‐oriented, and accurate with the ability to prioritize, work well and thrive under pressure, pay attention to the ‘little things’, and be efficient and effective, producing high quality work
- Experience with accounting for investment portfolios
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of Canadian tax principles, accounting concepts, internal controls, Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) , and Net Suite accounting software.
- Positive career history, with demonstrated stability, commitment, and progression
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to actively listen, be congenial, diplomatic, and business‐like, and writes clearly and concisely
- Excellent judgment and discretion, with the ability to make critical distinctions and has an innate understanding of the importance of protecting personal information
- Team player and flexible - easily understands the importance of pitching in, happy to perform duties of an administrative nature, able to deal with quickly changing priorities
- Takes initiative, self‐starter, problem solver, learn and introduce new ways of doing things to improve the accounting and office processes
- Strong customer service orientation, understands the importance of delivering prompt, accurate, and professional service to client
