About You

As an emerging professional with 2–3 years of public accounting experience, you are ready to grow beyond compliance into impactful advisory work. With a strong technical foundation in tax compliance, you are progressing toward your CPA designation and learning to handle complex engagements with confidence. You lead with curiosity and an analytical mindset, thrive in dynamic environments where learning and growth are prioritized, take ownership of your work, and hone your technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead tax research on complex issues, delivering clear, well-supported conclusions that inform client strategy, planning, and compliance outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of advanced tax planning strategies, including the preparation and review of complex tax returns.
  • Support end-to-end tax compliance, planning, and advisory engagements by analyzing client-specific issues, legislation, provisions, and jurisprudence.
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret financial and tax data to support accurate reporting, strategic insights, and high-quality advisory work.
  • Apply strong expertise in the Canadian Income Tax Act and related legislation to deliver compliant, practical, and forward-thinking tax solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with Engagement Teams and Firm Leadership on planning, timelines, risk management, and execution of client engagements.
  • Take ownership of identifying, investigating, and resolving tax issues, discrepancies, and technical risks, escalating where appropriate.
  • Contribute to business development and continuous improvement by fortifying client relationships, identifying opportunities, and enhancing team effectiveness.
What You Bring
  • 2–3 years of recent, progressive public accounting tax experience with exposure to complex tax engagements.
  • CPA designation in progress or completed, with completion or pursuit of the CPA In-Depth Tax Program or MTax.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, with a strong aptitude for quickly learning and adapting to new technologies.
  • Ambitious and driven approach to work with a passion for accounting, an eagerness to learn and grow, and confidently take on new challenges.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to foster strong relationships and collaborate seamlessly.
  • Strong organizational and execution skills, with the ability to confidently manage multiple priorities and deadlines without compromising quality or accuracy.
  • Demonstrated alignment with McGovern Hurley’s values of collaboration, respect, accountability, integrity, and quality.
  • Proven experience in client- or customer-facing roles, engaging clients professionally and delivering a positive experience – a definite plus.
