Tax Accountant, Tax Manager, Accounting & Finance
The role is for a Tax Accountant – T1/T3 who will support day‑to‑day tax operations with a focus on complex estate and trust accounts.
Responsibilities- Prepare and file income tax returns for complex estate, trust, and beneficiary accounts
- Gather required information from clients, internal teams, and external sources to facilitate accurate tax filings
- Perform calculations, complete schedules, and organize data for complex returns
- Review assessment notices, prepare adjustment requests, objection notices, and Clearance Certificate applications
- Communicate with CRA to provide requested information and ensure compliance
- Maintain quality, responsiveness, and timeliness standards for tax filings
- Liaise with client’s Trust staff, outside tax professionals, and clients to meet tax obligations and implement tax strategies
- Manage and potentially train junior staff members
- Review and prepare complex tax returns such as GREs, terminal T1 returns, T3 trust and estate returns
- Take ownership of assigned projects with limited supervision
- Support special projects related to estate and trust taxation
- Minimum of 3+ years’ experience in accounting or tax‑related roles
- Strong knowledge of estate and trust tax compliance, including T1, T3, and GRE returns
- Proficient with tax preparation software, specifically Taxprep
- Post‑secondary degree in accounting or equivalent
- Familiarity with graduated rate estates
- Excellent analytical, research, and decision‑making skills
- Strong attention to detail and high accuracy in work
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients and professionals
- Ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously with effective time management
- CPA designation or working towards it
- Experience with CRA RepID and other tax‑related systems
- Knowledge of deceased taxpayer scenarios and estate planning principles
- Experience working with paperless or digital workflows
- Bilingual skills are a plus
