As the Senior Cost Accountant, you will provide financial leadership and strategic partnership to plant operations, procurement, and cross‑functional teams by delivering actionable financial insights that drive operational performance and continuous improvement. Key responsibilities include leading monthly production variance reporting, conducting product cost analysis, supporting financial forecasting, and coordinating plant specific year‑end audit activities. As the primary finance partner to plant leadership, you will influence decision‑making, promote accountability, and help drive cost optimization and operational excellence through strong analytical skills, collaboration, and a proactive, solutions‑focused mindset.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Partner with plant managers and the production team to ensure the smooth running of our manufacturing facilities, investigating and resolving day‑to‑day issues that arise.
- Lead the preparation and delivery of a comprehensive monthly manufacturing scorecard with operation and financial KPI’s that gives a driver‑based understanding of variances and provides full visibility to overall plant performance to the organization.
- Ownership of innovation and site level costing. Review and analyze costing elements for each production line, validate product costing for innovation or formula changes with brand, supply chain and R&D teams, and conduct ad hoc costing analytics.
- Provide recommendations on opportunities for productivity initiatives and areas of opportunity across our manufacturing footprint, including Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) decisions, inventory management, controls, quality, safety or other key areas.
- Drive compliance with our costing policies, processes and procedures, and provide recommendations for improvement and efficiency. Maintain documentation on our costing processes and methodologies.
- Prepare ad‑hoc reports and analysis with variance explanations and recommendations as required by Plant Managers, the Finance team and the Senior Leadership Team.
- Support the year‑end audit by providing working papers, costing analytics and responses to audit queries in a timely fashion.
- Bachelor's Degree (business, finance or accounting specialization preferred).
- Accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) or working towards completion.
- 3-5 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting in a manufacturing environment. CPG experience is an asset.
- Familiarity with costing methodologies, and experience with SAP or other ERP systems.
- Strong record of performance management, financial analysis and planning accountability.
- Excellent analytical and financial modeling skills, with strong attention to detail. Strong excel skills are required.
- Experience uncovering key insights and leveraging them to make fact‑based decisions.
- Experience collaborating with and influencing cross‑functional partners, with a solutions‑oriented approach to solving problems.
- Proactive and ambitious mindset, willing to challenge the status quo to improve the business.
- Strong communication skills, and comfort working with senior leaders of the organization.
