What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manage new and junior staff and conduct training sessions.
  • Prepare complex estate and trust tax returns and ensure timely completion.
  • Perform income‑tax compliance, planning and administrative functions.
  • Calculate required schedules, organize data for complex returns, and submit them without additional oversight.
  • Review assessment notices, prepare adjustments, objection notices, and clearance certificate requests.
  • Correspond with the CRA to provide requested information.
  • Prepare GRE and terminal T1 returns as required.
  • Participate in special projects and take ownership of assigned assignments with limited supervision.
How You’ll Succeed
  • Client engagement: Understand business structures and associated risks; gather necessary information for return preparation.
  • Compliance identification: Conduct calculations, complete schedules, and manage complex returns independently.
  • Relationship building: Liaise with the Tax team, CIBC Trust staff, outside professionals, and clients to meet filing requirements and explain tax issues.
  • Subject‑matter expertise: Technical knowledge of estate and trust taxation, post‑mortem planning opportunities, and effective preparation of returns and schedules.
  • Leadership capabilities: Train junior staff and manage special projects with minimal supervision.
Who You Are
  • Certified CPA/CA with current accreditation in STEP, CSI, or Taxation Courses.
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in accounting.
  • Experience managing workloads and independently preparing T1, T1 terminal, T3, and estate trust returns.
  • Strong tax‑research abilities and proficiency with tax‑preparation software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft detailed communications using specialized estates and trusts terminology.
  • Organised, goal‑oriented, and able to coordinate multiple activities while influencing stakeholders.
  • Client‑focused mindset and commitment to delivering high‑quality solutions.
