The OpportunityWe are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a CPA candidate or newly designated CPA looking to build their career in public accounting. You will work alongside experienced professionals on a variety of engagements, gaining hands-on exposure to audit, assurance, and advisory work across multiple industries.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare compilation engagements and financial statements for clients across a variety of industries.
- Prepare and assist with the completion of review and audit engagements.
- Prepare Personal, Corporate, Partnership, and Trust tax returns.
- Correspond with the CRA regarding corporate, personal, payroll, and sales tax matters.
- Prepare and review working papers and supporting documentation with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Conduct testing of internal controls, account reconciliations, and analytical procedures.
- Ensure that all audit and accounting issues are properly identified and resolved in a timely manner.
- Work directly with clients to coordinate the efficient completion of engagements, request necessary information, and review accounting transactions.
- Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and relevant government agencies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Enrolled in or eligible to enroll in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).
- Foundational knowledge of Canadian accounting standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general comfort with accounting software.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a client-service environment.
- 2+ years of experience at a mid-size accounting.
- Experience with Caseware, Caseview and Tax Prep.
- Experience with public sector or not-for-profit audit engagements.
- Full CPA PEP exam and module fee support, including study leave.
- Mentorship from experienced CPAs and a structured path toward designation.
