An established national law firm is seeking an experienced Billing Manager to oversee its legal billing function and provide leadership to a dedicated team supporting multiple practice areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, mentorship, and support to the billing team
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning
  • Balance workloads, monitor productivity, and ensure service levels are consistently achieved
  • Support employee development through coaching, performance management, and training initiatives
Billing & Revenue Operations
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and delivery of client invoices while maintaining a high standard of accuracy
  • Ensure billing activities are completed within established timelines and in accordance with client-specific requirements
  • Work closely with lawyers and support staff to address billing questions, resolve discrepancies, and facilitate timely invoice processing
  • Monitor billing trends and identify opportunities to improve turnaround times and overall efficiency
  • Assist with financial close activities by ensuring billing milestones are achieved on schedule
Relationship Management
  • Develop strong working relationships with legal professionals, business services teams, and clients
  • Serve as a trusted resource for billing-related inquiries and procedural guidance
  • Promote a responsive, solutions-focused approach to internal and external client service
  • Collaborate across departments to support the firm's overall financial objectives
Process Improvement
  • Evaluate existing workflows and recommend enhancements that improve accuracy, efficiency, and service delivery
  • Support the implementation of new technologies, reporting tools, and operational initiatives
  • Maintain effective controls and standardized procedures across the billing function
  • Ensure billing practices align with client expectations, firm policies, and industry standards
What You Bring
  • Progressive experience in legal billing within a law firm or comparable professional services environment
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring, or supervising billing professionals
  • Strong understanding of legal billing practices, electronic billing, and client-specific billing requirements
  • Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build credibility across all levels of the organization
  • A proactive leadership style with a focus on continuous improvement and team development
Technical Skills
  • Experience working with legal financial management systems such as Aderant, Elite 3E, or similar platforms
  • Familiarity with electronic billing applications and client billing portals
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including reporting and data analysis
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated success leading billing operations within a legal or professional services environment
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, compliance requirements, and operational best practices
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while delivering exceptional client service
