Job Description
Our client in the non-profit sector is seeking a Library Assistant to join their team on an 11-week probationary basis, with strong potential for long-term, permanent employment. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about supporting library operations in a community-focused environment. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for supporting day-to-day functions across In-Person and Online Library Services, Library Collection Support, and General Administrative Tasks.

This position requires you to work fully onsite in Toronto, with the nearest subway station being Yonge and Bloor.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver friendly, front-line support to library users and visitors during scheduled in-person hoursAssist with returns, check-outs, and renewals of library materialsRespond professionally to basic, non-technical inquiries (e.g., hours, status of materials)Prepare engaging displays to support outreach and enhance user experienceLabel new materials with barcodes, identifiers, and call numbersEnsure accurate shelving, packaging, and labeling of new acquisitionsMaintain accurate shipment and return recordsTroubleshoot mail delivery issues with Canada Post and internal teamsSelect, pack, and prepare books for shipment across OntarioCoordinate supply orders and print shipping materials (labels, return slips, etc.)Oversee basic library functions in the Librarian’s absenceSupport event logistics (e.g., room setup, catering coordination)Provide occasional backup for front desk/receptionHandle additional administrative duties as assignedQualifications
1–2 years of relevant work experience in a library or administrative settingA college diploma in Library and Information Technician or equivalent is considered an assetExcellent customer service and a professional, positive demeanorStrong written and verbal communication skillsDetail-oriented and highly organizedAbility to work independently and collaborativelySkilled in managing multiple tasks and deadlinesProficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and general internet navigationBasic troubleshooting and a proactive approach to solving problemsFrench language skills are considered an asset
