Our client in the non‑profit sector is seeking a Library Assistant to join their team on an 11‑week probationary basis, with solid potential for long‑term, permanent employment.
This role is ideal for someone who is detail‑oriented, organized, and passionate about supporting library operations in a community‑focused environment.
As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for supporting day‑to‑day functions across In‑Person and Online Library Services, Library Collection Support, and General Administrative Tasks.

This position requires you to work fully onsite in Toronto, with the nearest subway station being Yonge and Bloor.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver friendly, front‑line support to library users and visitors during scheduled in‑person hours.
- Assist with returns, check‑outs, and renewals of library materials.
- Respond professionally to basic, non‑technical inquiries (e.g., hours, status of materials).
- Prepare engaging displays to support outreach and enhance user experience.
- Label new materials with barcodes, identifiers, and call numbers.
- Ensure accurate shelving, packaging, and labeling of new acquisitions.
- Maintain accurate shipment and return records.
- Troubleshoot mail delivery issues with Canada Post and internal teams.
- Select, pack, and prepare books for shipment across Ontario.
- Coordinate supply orders and print shipping materials (labels, return slips, etc.).
- Oversee basic library functions in the Librarians absence.
- Support event logistics (e.g., room setup, catering coordination).
- Provide occasional backup for front desk/reception.
- Handle additional administrative duties as assigned.
- 12 years of relevant work experience in a library or administrative setting.
- A college diploma in Library and Information Technician or equivalent is considered an asset.
- Excellent customer service and a professional, positive demeanor.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail‑oriented and highly organized.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Skilled in managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and general internet navigation.
- Basic troubleshooting and a proactive approach to solving problems.
- French language skills are considered an asset.
